Cross Country Team

Cross Country Season 2020

We are excited to announce there will be a modified cross country season that will begin on September 21st! Students will be split into two cohorts based on primary (grades 1-3) and intermediate (grades 4-6) grades. Students in the primary grades will have practice on Mondays and students in the intermediate grades will have practice on Thursdays. All practices will run from dismissal until 3:45 and will take place rain or shine. Please see the back of this paper for a schedule.

The guidelines state that cross country is the one sport that does not require athletes to wear masks while participating but a social distance of six feet is required at all times during practices. As a result of this a team of 12 participants will be the maximum allowed so sign ups will be on a first come first serve basis for each cohort. There will be one cohort for primary and one cohort for intermediate students. Masks must be worn to and from practice and will be stored at practice in a brown paper bag that was used in the classroom during the school day.

Students will not be able to enter the school building once practice begins so it is very important that your child brings a water bottle with them to practice. Water bottles from the classroom will most likely be staying in their classroom during the week so packing an extra water bottle just for cross country practices is a good idea. Please remind your child to bring their bottle to practice full since the coaches do not see them at the end of the day before they arrive at practice.

In the event of rain we will still plan on having practice so plan accordingly as far as clothing. If there is thunder and lightning an alert broadcast will be sent out by noon to cancel practice. Students will have their belongings placed in a plastic bag outside so their things do not get wet while we are practicing.

Dismissal will begin at 3:45 and will take place in the parking lot next to the old BRHS which is where dismissal pick up is happening for the end of the school day. Vehicles should proceed between the high school and elementary gym side of the building. Mrs. Edson and Mrs. Marks will be there to greet you. We will dismiss your child on a first come, first in line basis. Please be patient for the first week as we work out the kinks. We also ask that you do not get out of your car during the pick up procedure.

We realize this is a big change to our normal running routine but we are excited to be able to have a cross country season. On the schedule you will notice a Fun Run at the end of the season. More information about the Fun Run will be sent home in the future. That run will be for all members of the team and a way to celebrate our running successes. If you have any questions please feel free to email either of us at laurie.edson@trus.org or lisa.marks@trsu.org.

Sincerely,

Laurie & Lisa
